Bernard Laurent is a professor of neurology specializing in neuropsychology, which he practiced at the St Etienne University Hospital for 30 years. Former president of the Society of Neuropsychology and member of the Academy of Medicine, he is the author of numerous articles and books on memory and Alzheimer's disease (see appendix on diagnostic issues).
Sandrine Basaglia-Pappas, holder of a speech therapy certificate and a master's degree in psychology with a specialization in neuropsychology, doctoral student in cognitive psychology and neuropsychology, has worked with adults with vascular and degenerative aphasia (primary progressive aphasia, Alzheimer's disease, etc.), but also with children with dyslexia-dysorthography, memory disorders, and attention disorders (ADHD). She specializes in language, memory, and executive functions. (See the APP presentation in the appendix).
Main service: memory consultation
We offer this consultation to provide patients with answers to their questions about memory problems (forgetting appointments, difficulties managing administrative paperwork, misplacing objects, distractions, etc.) or language problems (such as word-finding difficulties). Are these problems related to normal aging or to the onset of a disease? In the case of sequelae (traumatic or vascular), is the disorder limited to one area or several, and based on the neuropsychological assessment, what help can be offered? What is the prognosis in terms of work?
Degenerative pathologies concerned: screening for degenerative diseases (mild neurocognitive disorders, Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body disease, frontotemporal degeneration, degenerative aphasia, Balint's syndrome, and other focal dementias) as well as non-degenerative diseases: sequelae of stroke, head trauma, encephalitis, tumors, multiple sclerosis, etc.
Clinical screening test (to determine whether a neuropsychological assessment is useful)
Organization of consultations:
A consultation will first be offered by Professor Bernard Laurent, who will conduct an interview with a neurological assessment in the form of questionnaires and a summary of clinical information (treatments, medical history) and an initial neuropsychological assessment lasting approximately one hour. Professor Laurent may request an additional neuropsychological assessment, carried out by Sandrine Basaglia-Pappas, in order to better identify cognitive difficulties. This assessment can be carried out in a single two-hour consultation. A second appointment, lasting one or two hours, may be offered depending on the assessments requested by the neurologist (long-term memory, language, etc.). Following these assessments, the practitioners will work together to establish a diagnosis. Finally, a summary of the assessments will be provided to the patient during a “summary consultation” with the neurologist.
Reports: Each consultation will be followed by a report sent to the patient.
Imaging: Professor Laurent will be able to interpret the CT scan or MRI sent in advance via dismed.
